Odd Hickory

    Then in recent high winds it suddenly snapped like 30 feet up. Decay at that height but very little above or below that point. Got about 75% out of woods thus far. You can see close up of split area in last photo

    P.S. I didn’t cut it with the top handle, but I already put away the bigger saws! Just left it there for scale.

    There is a monster hickory in the woods at work, it had a huge limb break off, looked much the same.
    This limb is probably 16" diameter by the trunk where it broke.

    I had the same thing with a SBH a number of years ago. Made good firewood.

    Top Shelf wood. I have a dead mockernut hickory (smaller than this one) that needs to come down soon. I always save some for the meat smoker.

    It got greedy with canopy. Mine almost never break. They pull their rootballs instead.
