I made a video on tree ID during fall colours season and notice that the sugar maples weren't the nice bright red or pinkish-red colours. The lamestream media blamed it on climate change
My late older cousin who worked for decades for the MNR said the fall colours were dependent on how much rain fell during the growing season. I can't remember how it went though.
I'm thinking the stress due to gypsy moth mass defoliation this summer and last may have played a role too. Many trees around here were stripped bare of leaves and had to re-bud in July/August. Not a normal year.
No climate change here. In southeast US, we've had great fall colors, the best in years for us. FYI, in NC we've had a very dry Fall, for what it's worth.
Our state DNR forecast an earlier color season with much better colors than normal but it would be done by mid October. They missed on all counts. Not bad with a 100% score; just too bad it was in the negative.
this year the colours were stretched out big time. I went to Niagara at the end of October and the colours weren't significant. I was there two weeks earlier and the sugar maples were full and the yellows, oranges and browns were just starting. I did some tree ID filming down there too Had the drone up over the falls!
