We sold our home Jan 2014. I was quite close with my insurance agent, he was a great guy. He knows we sold the home. Why am I getting the notice? I will call in the morning during office hours. This was supposed to be taken care of at the closing....
At least the notice was telling you the insurance was no longer in effect. No money's owed. When we sold, the taxes are supposed to be taken care of at closing too. We got a notice from the town about 6 months later that taxes were due... that was a total surprise. Not a huge deal ... but... turns out the town we moved to does a 50/50 tax thing during a year's time. Never heard of it before. It had gotten mixed up at closing.
Our little town collects taxes twice a year. It helps most of us. We even have a tax club available, but it doesn't earn interest. We really get hit hard with the tax to support the schools and the excise tax on our cars etc.
Ding Ding Ding!! You nailed it golf! It says 10/4/2014 - 10/5/2015. Thanks! I didn't even bother to look.
Did you change insurance companies? I hope you got a rebate on your remaining premium. If you paid your premium in full like I do for the year the company owes you money back because the policy should have been canceled at closing. If your mortgage company was paying your insurance and taxes out of escrow they should have gotten that money but you should have been credited at settlement. Call your former agent stuff slips through the cracks.
foragefarmer !!! I finally talked to him after phone tag. We will get a refund I just need to locate the closing docs. Gave my hubby power of attorney for closing, I will have to track it down but shouldnt be too hard. Thank you for pointing this out, it is not small change
I finally unraveled the closing company and closing agent name etc. Sent her an email requesting the signed docs. I unfortunately have been through a couple computers since then, but found a copy of the closing docs signed by the buyers (not us). It's crazy, now days its all electronic over email. Either way I expect to see a refund on that home insurance policy in the next few months. Thanks again, I errantly assumed it was all accounted for.
