After months of cold, snow, ice and wind, the weather turned this week. Above average temperatures, the woods are bare and reasonably dry. Like other recent threads here, took advantage of it and got in the woods with the tractor and trailer, cut and bucked a couple long dead Chestnut oaks and began to split them. Felt great to get the saw running, haul some rounds, and swing the splitting maul again! Surprisingly, most of the splits showed only 25-30 % moisture. I know it is not much wood, but it’s a start!
It always feels good to get a start on the year. I am having wood gathering cravings myself. I am really looking forward to using my son’s new truck to haul wood, because we won’t have to wait for my brother to be available to make a big trip worth it.
That is a good start. I need to start to refill my stacks. The wood is there, I just need to get to it. Everytime I plan on getting doing it, something comes up or I get pulled finishing my garage. I think Im going to plan to work every other evening on firewood Hoard on!
