When someone posts bad news, it cracks me up that some people “Like” it to show support and others refuse to “Like” it because they don’t like it.
Everyone's got a different perspective and reason why they do things. It is kinda funny to me when people like "bad news" posts. Kinda like a cop out to actually think of something considerate to say. They just click the like button and go on with their happy little lives.
I click it to show support and honestly I'm socially awkward on or off social media, depending on the news posted I'm sitting here for 30 minutes wording something correctly (this post currently) so I don't say something that comes across wrong. Socially awkward person+text=a huge misunderstanding
I'm about the same with not knowing what to say. Sometimes I'll read a post and think about it for hours, obviously while doing other stuff, before i respond. Even then it may take a few min to type out. Here's just a random ruaway thought of mine. The way i see it... the "only" way someone takes something wrong is because they're looking for a reason to go off or you just struck a nerve on their problem. Just gotta say what you gotta say sometimes. May lose a "friend" or two over it but were they really a friend when it came down to it? If you can't speak openly of your thoughts are you really around good/ like minded people? Feel free to correct my thinking if you will. I'll try and respond respectfully. Thats the fun thing about social media, it's a good practice for real life interactions. Well.... if you use social media that way instead of just to be a smartass like most.
In this forum, we don't have the option of anything but a thumbs up, so that is what people have to click on if they don't have words, but want to show support. Others have words, so use them. Some use both. There's nothing wrong with any of those methods.
When I give a like it is not necessarily liking something like bad news. Sometimes I will like as a thank you for posting; be it good news or bad. For example, in the "Thoughts and prayers for others," a like can be a thank you for posting to let others know about what you are posting. All in all, why would anyone get upset over someone else "liking" a post?
Great points. I’ll add that sometimes I’ll Like a bad news post because there is something positive. It’s usually someone’s response/attitude or solution to the problem.
^^This...........I treat it as a form of acknowledgement if I am not commenting in the the thread. I get both sides of it, to each is own.
One nice thing about OPE, is they went from a like but you can choose sup-options and something I wish we could have here. Merry Christmas to everyone and stay safe out there.
This is probably the umpteenth time I've heard OPE mentioned on here so I cruised on over to do a little reconnaissance. Navigating the site is similar to this forum; very intuitive. I even recognize a lot of the member names too. So what do they have that we don't? Do you think I should sign up or will it become another obsession to check in on multiple times per day?
I spend most of my time here, but the members on OPE are great, just like here. I go by I saw a lot over there.
