To prove to Rope & Cold Trigger Finger & the others that live in the real cold, a couple of "southerners" went out cutting fence rows to prove we're not complete wimps. Friend of mine got behind on firewood due to his work schedule so we went on a fence row cutting job I haven't been able to get on. Ground's just been too soft. 16F snow & 20mph NE wind. Just right LOL, got about 2/3 of a cord each & no one froze. Dogs spent more time in the truck than usual though.

Few more pics. I measured this job at just under a linear mile around the fields. Need to get as much as possible done before planting time.
Edit: Forgot to mention that all this wood was cut with the huskihl ported 026 with a 16" bar. That little saw will make some real time in 8-16" rounds. 2 1/2 tanks of fuel & not a hiccup!

Nice work on a not so nice day. If you have to do it in freezing weather, then so be it. I bet it felt good to get home. Ntw13aj.jpg

Yes it did. Roads were slick & it's always a little more exciting with a loaded trailer, but took it easy & no issues.

Ha-ha. If you ever lose a red mitten, stop by Ned and Donny's house. It might be there.

Nice work, I wimped out. I fixed a pull rope on 025,sharpened 4 chains and put the tire chains on the kubota. All of that was done in a controlled environment!!

I wimped out too. I have a couple logs out back that need to be brought up to the garage for testing saws on. It never got to 10° here today so I said heck with it.

Glad the saws are doing well Adam

I too wimped out. The 20 mph winds make it so I don't cut trees then. I could've split the last few rounds of ash I have though. I did snow blow the driveway though.

Thanks Allan, was more out necessity of getting the job done or at least started than anything. I've got plenty of wood here, but don't like to keep folks waiting. Just haven't had much good weather on the weekends since last winter.

Not near what was predicted, probably could have got a load out if I would have hit it early and fast. Still supposed to get another 4-8 overnight.

Last nice firewooding day I remember was in October. It isn't the cold, it's the rain. When it isn't raining, it is too muddy to do anything. Too warm for the ground to freeze, too wet for it to dry out.

Same here. It's been so wet that even going out to just split some rounds at the pile has been unpleasant.

When you have the toys, ummm, ahh, tools, you can do most anything when you want to do it.

    Nice area.

Now I know for certain. You definitely are crazy!  I'd kick the dogs out and stay in the truck myself.

That looks awesome, I wish you were closer I would come help. I love cutting in the snow. Really like cutting in the dark to make things interesting.
