Northern lights map for Friday night

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center said Thursday that a series of solar flares and eruptions from the sun could trigger severe geomagnetic storms and “spectacular displays of aurora” on Earth from Friday evening through the weekend. The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued its first "severe geomagnetic storm watch" since 2005. Auroras might be seen as far south as Alabama.

The nighttime mode on the phone makes for good pics. To the naked eye, I actually thought these were just wispy clouds. No color.

 

Average in central Wisconsin. Have seen them much better when there has been less hype..

 

It's because of where you're at so not a big deal for you guys. Down here I've never seen them so super cool.

 

I took these fri just after dark. Was out from 9:30 until 11:00, earlier was the better part of the show.
Since I started trying to take pictures, I’m amazed at how much the camera enhances it! To the naked eye it looks mostly like thin veils of light. Although tonight there was the slightest bit of discernible pink with the naked eye.
I’m fascinated by the auroras and try to get out to look if there’s even the slightest chance

 

I could see the pink/purple with my naked eye this time around, no real dancing this round but the colors were great.

Still a nice show going on, I went out try & snipe a coyote.

 

It's always super cloudy when nice things happen in the sky here. I got nothing.

The loooooong exposure on the phone camera accepted more light for each photo, so the pics were much more impressive and vivid than what you would see with the naked eye

Supposed to see them through Sunday.

 

My sister ( science teacher) and a friend kept sending me texts so I couldn’t sleep, so I went back out at 1:30 until almost 3. Missed the pulsating they told me about, but still an amazing show.
I’ll be watching again tonight.

 

Seeing as I was looking over our town and all the lights, you couldn't see much with your eyes. I used the camera like someone else suggested and there was a lot more colour in the picture that what I could actually see. Thanks for the suggestion.

 

We even saw the Aurora Borealis in GA. Never thought I would see anything like it unless we went to Alaska...

We have a sizable city to our north so that light pollution washed out any chance of seeing them with the naked eye. I did however get a good view through my phone camera. Earlier was better here in central Michigan:

 

Southern Missouri, first time I have seen the Northern Lights. Was not as vivid in person as the time lapse pictures I took but you could still see them clearly.
