Yes, the squirrel cage was completely disintegrated!
It should look like this one!

She said it burned like a candle that did not flicker much before it croaked!

Here is a video on replacing it!
    Looks easy but Nooooo!
The appliance adapter was silicone on, rusted and broke apart coming off.
They do not show that in the video!

I have never seen a squirrel cage fan used in the exhaust.

Normally the exhaust is a paddle type fan with either one or two rows of blades.

Yes, Also when the squirrel cage collects ash it can make noise and be out of balance.
If you noticed in the video, the new exhaust blower has the petal quadrafire impellers that HHT uses!

Still no quick change hub for easy cleaning and motor replacement.

I like the housings with the quick change hub.

Do you need to replace the whole exhaust housing?

    Ahhhhhh yessss

I wonder what clown dreamed up the idea of using a squirrel cage fan.

The SC's are hard enough to keep clean when moving clean (relative term) room air.

I pulled the room air blower from our Big Whit recently as it was getting a tad noisy, and the blades were all clogged with pellet/shell/room dust and bonded well with cooking residue (normal junk found in room air.

Blew it out with the 150 psi off the compressor and ooooooooh, all "more gooder" :D

The use of the SC must have been a corporate BEAN COUNTER decision ???

Likely they got a sweet deal on the SC fans and bought a train load of them.

The failure rate was likely very high.

The paddle type fans tend to stay relatively clean due to centrifugal force tossing off the junk.

Not sure about the application of the graphite spray to stop "Klingons"

    Might help.

Our Whit had only a very light amount of crud, even after 5 years without cleaning and gawd knows if it was ever out before we got it.
The tie wrap was still on the harness, so I doubt if anyone had been there.

    Looks good Don

Bet it will work sweet once you get the new fan installed

I am still puzzled about all the rust you folks get inside your stoves.

I only see minimal rust in ours out here and then its usually if a stove has been stored in a damp outbuilding after being removed from service.

Is the rust issue due to the salt that likely gets into the pellets when the wood is being processed ????

Just blows me away, all the rust.

I bought an Advantage 2 that had been used as a greenhouse heater for several years, and aside from having to evict a settlement of Rodents the thing was very nice inside with minimal rust anywhere.

The rodents had munched on some of the wiring, and judging by a few carcass's laying in close proximity to bare wires I would say that they were munching when the thing was running.

    Good luck Don

Show us some pix when its all up and running again.

Mike Holton at Englander Stoves suggested that the application of spray graphite on clean fan blades would slow down the build-up of "crud".
This is pics of what I used, and of the blower vanes in my 10-cpm after the epic "60 bags w/o opening the door" run:

That is a good point about the rust around here! I think we have more moisture in out air in the winter and in the summer in the NorthEast.
According to a national sales rep there is more Selkirk DT venting sales up here! That is why I have Selkirk DT on my 2 house stoves and plan to use it on my workshop stove.
This may also explain why Selkirk DT may not make a difference elsewhere and why Selkirk really cannot make any claims that it does work better!
