Another task for my 028 fix ups. There is no oil getting to the bar. I've been educating myself here and on youtube. The chainsaw starts easily, idles, and revs nicely, but needs more work to cut wood. I do some checking on the lack of bar oil shortly and want to finalize an order with the local Stihl dealer later today. Thoughts on how to diagnose the oiling problem will be appreciated.
I've got some parts on order including a rim sprocket kit, when they show up I'll check out the oil pump.
How would I check? I checked the oil tank, pulled off the bar, cleaned the oil channel, fired up the saw; no oil seen.
Steps- Rinse the oil tank with old mixed gas, dump out, then fill with clean bar oil. Take off bar/chain and start saw. Warm up a bit and look on clutch side with cover removed for oil coming out. Blip throttle occasionally. It should be pretty obvious. If no oil, remove clutch drum and you’ll see a plastic gear pressed into the pump. These 1118 (series you have) oilers are ok. I haven’t run into many that are stripped out. Dont order anything until you diagnose the issue. Some of the oil pumps/parts for 1118/1119 are pricey.
The order I put in had bar, chain, rim sprocket kit, and some master switch related things, no pump parts. I'll look at the worm gear when I pull off the spur sprocket. "Warm up a bit and look on clutch side with cover removed for oil coming out" did that, no oil.
If ,you haven’t done so . Take the cover off the oil pump / clutch chamber ,and check the condition of the oil pump drive gears . The 028 doesn’t use the worm gear that most Stihls we are use to do . There are about 3 versions of drive on that saw . So, you’ll be best off visually checking things in there .
Filter in oil tank? Another thing I have done is very light air pressure back toward the tank from the oiler hole.
