I'll be splitting this red oak today. Interesting story on this tree, it's been dead at least a year and was on my property. It was about 30' up a hill and about 50' off the road and main power lines. I called the electric company and they came out this fall and dropped it for me. While they were here I had them look at a dying pin oak next to my driveway that would possibly take out my service line. They wouldn't drop the pin oak but they topped it for me so I can drop it safely when I'm ready. Both trees are 18" to 20" at the base so I'll have a good bit of wood in my inventory.

Nice wood and nice power company.

Should make for some good firewood. Wish we had some oak around here.

I guess I should mention the electric co is SCI REMC. They used to farm out the tree work but they have their own crew now.

That's good as our electric company used to do all their own work now it is farmed out. I've tried several times to get them to cut trees but only once have I been successful.

Good that you get some good oak from this and good that now you can drop that pin oak when you want to.

Our electric company has double farmed out the "trimming" and now me and hundreds of suburbanites are having to wade through their double talk.
