Haven't kept up, what's up in the chainsaw world circa 2020? Back when I was keeping up with it, I recall the Stihl 500i was new. Has it claimed a permanent spot or are there problems with it? Also, the tiny Echo 2511t and also the 2511WES rear handle. The latter, I bought both a year or so ago, great little saws. Also bought a Makita EA4300FX3 from England cuz I could get it in blue color, lol. Very nice saw. Any new saws, any new technologies or developments anyone can shed light on?
Hiya Brad! I am fine. Hope all is well with you and yours. Thought I had covid last week but it was bronchitis. But... covid is accelerating around here. My neighbor, younger than me, just died of it! Poor guy just inherited a bundle, came home, bought a house, and covid got him. No justice! Have you ever seen a 500i? I have not. Wonder if they got the bugs out.
Zeta is raining me out tomorrow, so I may drive up to the Stihl dealer to see if he has a 500 and some scabbards.
Never seen one in person. Three Stihl dealers near me have none. Unaware of any CT dealers that do. I mightve had covid back in June. Never was tested. If not some type of flu. Knocked me out for a couple days and took a few weeks to feel 100% again. You folks must be tiring of Hurricanes i imagine.
Those little 2511t’s are great little saws, one of the best purchases I have made. Stihl not only has released the 500i but also has an 881 in the works for Europe. Echo has finally released the 7310, it looks to be a pretty nice setup. Well designed & thought out. It has me tempted but I don’t really need another 70cc saw.
The 500i motor has been around for a while on the Stihl cutoff/ concrete saws f I believe. Ran a 500 last fall but since I had bought the 462 didn't think I needed one that close in cc's.
+1 The cutoff saw cc's, bhp, and obviously weight are considerably less impressive than the chainsaw version though. 72.2 cc vs 79.2 cc, 5.2 bhp vs 6.7 bhp, and 22.5 lbs vs 13.9 lbs. The 462 should do virtually everything the 500i does. As cool as the thought of a FI chainsaw is, I don't have $1,300 laying around. I'll be sticking to my 460 and 7900.
I didn’t make it to the Stihl shop today, since all hell broke loose and we lost power and still don’t have power. The good news is there should be some healthy truckloads of red oak headed my way.
I think I’ve read the 59X is non auto tune and stratocarb/xtorq like. Wonder how that will fair with the 572, side by each.
With I'm guessing at least 92cc +, it should be fine. Looking at how right they got the 572, betcha they make sure this one is just as good. Even if non-autotune, expect fi. Carb-ret-tors are a thing of the past.
Stihl MS461 ported MMWS 7.1 bhp / 14.6 lbs = 0.486 bhp/lbs Stihl MS500i stock 6.7 bhp / 13.9 lbs = 0.482 bhp/lbs There may be gains to be found in the 500i, e.g. muffler mod You can put an unlimited coil on an MS461 to make use of any gains from muff mod/porting. Doubt you can do anything to the the ignition system on 500i if you make any modifications. Just sayin'
