New Year's Eve fun with the black powder golf ball mortar

    On the thread, What are you doing on New Year's Eve? I posted that we were shooting off the black powder .50 mini cannon and the golf ball mortar.

    My daughter caught a couple shots of the golf ball mortar going off with her ipod (not great video quality) and uploaded them for me. The first video we loaded a golf ball as usual, and they travel so fast and so far you can't see them or find them, even during daylight:



    For the second video, we decided to replace the golf ball with about a half cup of powdered sugar in the mortar on top of the black powder:drool:

    It doesn't look like much on the video:



    But take a look at the fireball with these screen captures (between 0:08 and 0:09) from the second video:
