Well I wanted to share a photo but can not get my Internet to up load any. Had some extra old cattle panels. I took one and laid it on top of some elm logs to create air space below them one panel on each side. Drove some fence posts and will stand a pallet on each end. After it is full I will throw a cover on it. Lol not the prettiest buthe I got a lot of wood to get down and seasoned.
Lol finally I still have to put the pallets on the ends once it is loaded a little more. A cattle panel is 16' x 5'
Pallets for the bottom and panel for the ends, maybe..... No matter, the cows aren't going to use it anymore anyway!
I really like the idea CoreyB but for sure I would stack the wood for 2 reasons. It will dry much, much better and you will be able to get more into one bin this way.
It will dry better stacked? Here is was thinking it would have more air space and dry better just tossed in. Thanks for the info. Luckily this is 2017-2018 wood. I have a ton of dead standing so I should be able to get enough wood for the next 4-5 winters. Unless the coffee business keeps picking up.
Up off the ground helps a lot, but wood dries from the outside, so you really want to split it smaller than that if you want it to dry out - plus oak don't give up its moisture too easy. Even when its standing dead, the trunk will still be really wet. The tops could be pretty dry though, I'd set those aside to burn first if you can.
Yes it is true that wood will dry much faster and better being stacked rather than in a heap. Many have found out the hard way.
