I have been cutting some bigger rounds lately and wanted something bigger than my trusty MS 250. After some research I decided that I would like to look at the MS 261. My local STIHL dealer is on my Saturday morning errand route so I stopped in and enquired. They said all they had was the MS 261C and that the C-M is back ordered for months. So I went with the 261C. When I got home i popped the cover off and saw a carburetor with a two wire harness and no needle valves. I think I have a C-M marked as a C. I got to run it for about an hour this afternoon and noticed it had WAY more power than my MS 250. I can’t wait to run it some more tomorrow. Can anyone confirm that this is M-TRONIC?

Yes it’s the mtronic. The m tronic saws all have a c. They are not labeled as cm’s. Congratulations you’ll love it :saw:

That is indeed an mtronic. Ive owned both versions and the 261 "carb" version isnt designated with the "C", just a plain 261. What length bar did you get with it?

Great saw Thom. Your 250 will become a shelf queen. My 261 replaced an MS290 that seldom got used after and eventually sold. Once bitten by the pro model saw bug you wont look back. Only problem is you'll want a bigger saw now which is fine as we'll support you in this endeavor. ;)

Wanna see lots of pics of it in action.

Mine came with a 20 and pulled it as well, but i switched back to a 16" which i was used to. 20" reserved for the bigger saws. What are you cutting tomorrow?

I have a 20” on a 261. It’s my favorite for limbing and working stuff laying on the ground. Easier on my back.

That 250 will wake up a bit with a muffler mod. Mine did. It gets clamped into a sawbuck thing from Northern tool to process limb wood quickly now.

Congrats on the new saw! I bet you’ll like the difference.

PS. The next natural progression is the 362. (I did it). These guys are going to start talking about the virtues of a 462 or 500i. Be ready.

I got some 12” -16” diameter maple rounds that need to be buckled down to 16” length. I also will get some ash.

Great saw ThomH123 you will love it! The only thing I regret is I haven’t got to run mine lately with all the snow we have everywhere.

Got some black locust then got some maple and a few ash rounds. This locust scrounge is at the end of my street. Too much for the MS 250
