I'm new here, but I've been heating our home with wood for years. I just got finished with muffler mods on both my MS250 and MS391. I have cut a little bit with the MS250 since I modified it and it seems quicker in the wood, definitely better throttle response, and starts WAY better than before, stock it took 5 or 6 pulls total for a cold start, now only 2. The MS391 I just put back together this evening and did a preliminary tune by ear on it. I will get it into some serious logs this weekend and fine tune it and check the plug to verify the mix.

I'm happy to be here and enjoy reading all the tips and info available here.

We started heating with wood back in 98 with a tiny 16" bar cheapo Poulan and an axe to split with. Things have gotten better since then... LOL

I have some other saws but these are the ones that get used almost all the time, MS250 w/ 18" bar and a MS391 w/ 25" bar

Wood shed is just 20' from the basement door. When this and the two wood racks in the basement are full, it's enough for the whole winter of heating the house. Ash, Beech, Maple, Cherry, and Locust are the most burned. Anything standing dead or blowdowns usually end up here if we can't make boards out of it on the sawmill.

The Ponderosa stove pretty much heats the whole house down to the teens and then the furnace may kick on some. We keep it toasty!!! None of that 68* stuff for us... LOL
