We have had several fires in our new stove. The first one smoked and gave off a strong smell..I'm assuming paint fumes. Its has only done it maybe one other time until yesterday evening. I thought the paint smell was over. The fumes actually made me feel sick...uhhg. Hopefully this paint will totally cure soon. Anyway one else have this happen?

Very common. In fact it will happen every time your stove heats up to a new high temp. But after that has happened, it will no longer be any concern. Many folks, do the initial fire up outside before installing the stove. My 2 cents is to run the stove when it is warm out and you can open the windows and doors. put a few fans in. This will hasten the off gassing of the the new paint finish. Good luck and happy burning in your new stove.

Save money is correct. I've hit "New"high temps even 3 years later and got the smell. New stove, first few days to a week you'll get some. Now it's a good time of year to get the Windows open to ventilate before it gets really cold.

We usually make our second fire as hot as we plan to burn it and open all the windows and the dooras

Agreed. It's a small price to pay for the comfort you'll experience going forward.

Not sure this is the correct advice....We repainted our old stove 3 times over 20 years, by the 3rd time, we built a hot fire and opened the doors and windows and got it over with......

You'll also get some scent on the first burn in the year. I'm guessing it is dust that builds up in the off season.

One more thing is if you put in new stove pipe that can and will smell too. Occasionally you might get a section that will smell for many fires. We had that happen and the hardware was going to replace it if it did not stop but after probably 10-12 fires it finally quit. Frustrating but in the end all is well. Usually the pipe will give off the fumes once or twice though and that will be the end of it.
