Today I finally built me a new log horse. I should have taken pics of my old one but I didn't think of it, It was in really bad shape and it went to the burn pit in the spring. I made this one out of pressure treated so it'll get me several years and I used 2x6 instead of 2x4 for the frame so it should give me more strength. The last one was just mill framing lumber 2x4's. Enjoy, copy it, its simple and strong! If you want dimensions just holler! Be happy to share.
My old one was held together with termite turds and anything I could screw to it! It got thrown into the fire pit this past spring, it served me for about 8 or 10 years. The bugs ain't gonna eat the legs out from under this one! and with fall coming and a nice day, it was an easy project to whip out.
Treated wood is better than not treated but it doesn't last like it use too. So I would plan on having to redo this one at some point as well. The boards on my trailer lasted 7 years in the direct sun on the trailer. 1/3 of them had rot spots on them. Contrast that to a deer stand that is probably 30 years old in y my woods and had been laying in the damp ground and leaves for at least the last 15 and it's still more solid than most of those trailer boards that were on my trailer deck.
It is due to the change in regulations on pressure treated lumber and what can be used chemical wise.
Yep ACQ or a few other botique blends most that have been squeezed out of the market, instead of the old CCA (A standing for Arsenic, which has turned most treatment facilities into basically superfund sites). CCA is still used commercially by law just not in the consumer (home) market. I am a forester with a minor in forest products .
