So our 21 year old lennox AC system was starting to show signs of death not to mention the homemade rigged up leaky duct work, so we decided to go ahead and get a new one installed. The guy that came out asked us how we heat the house and I pointed at the woodstove he said oh yeah thats nice but after we get the new system installed with a heat pump you will most likely quit heating with wood. I laughed at him. I said the only reason Im getting a heat pump installed with this system is so that we can go out of town during the winter and not worry about everything freezing (our fish died last year when we left for a long weekend). It will be nice to have the heat pump for a backup when it gets really cold out so I dont have to get up earlier than normal to get the fire going again in the morning. I think the biggest thing about this new HVAC system will be the fan I plan to run that in the winter and hopefully it will help to circulate the heat from the woodstove a little better than it has been in the past years.

It gets cold enough down there in the winters? :D

Always nice to have a new system and a good backup! Congrats.

I found that running the fan on our AC was a losing proposition. My return is far from the stove and the ductwork in the unheated attic space loses heat also. It just doesn't work out.

Ductwork in unconditioned attic for heating is never good.....heated air is always easy to move up, always hard to move down.
