My father in-law gave me a pretty cool gun today. A Polish .44 Carbine. I've hit it sitting next to the Chinese SKS he have me for a wedding gift. SKS is on the bottom carbine on top. Also a pic of the ammo, both 7.62 the carbine is 7.62x54 and the SKS is 7.62x39 big difference in the rounds. I need to take these both out and shoot them. Would love to shoot a deer or something with them also.

Awesome! Never shot a .44 carbine but have shot thousands of and thousands of 7.62x39 up until the point I sold my SKS.

damm. I don't think I've even seen a polish m44 before... Are you sure it isn't finish? Very valuable if it is.... I have a couple x54's in 91/30 and a Chinese version like yours (t53) and an sks that uses ak mags. Got that one from my uncle when he passed. Both those look excellent.

I was told its Polish and looking online there was a lot of polish ones made. They bought the tools after the soviets stopped making them in 1948 and started making a polish versions in 1949.

Those are nice guns, I need to get out and buy a mag for the SKS sometime.

you will have to remove the factory 10 rd mag if you want to use the duckbill 30 and 20 round pro mags. I've been out of the Mosin loop for a year or two. Still want to find a real M44. My brother has the factory cut down 91/30 M59 i think the model is.

Mine is a norinco SKS-M. Factory built to accept normal AK mags, not the special SKS mags.

Also been thinking about putting a scope on it, just wasn't sure if I want to drill and tap the gun.

Look around for a SKS dust or bolt cover... That's what my uncle did with mine since it has a separate serial # stamped on it... the original isn't drilled or hacked up, unless you are talking the M44.... they make some no drill rear site mounts. I'm going to sporterize one of my mosins with a different stock, scope, bent bolt, muzzle brake, etc. They are fairly accurate shooters as long as the rifling isn't wore out from the corrosive ammo neglect over the years.

Edit: sorry, didn't mean to Hijack your thread and take your glory.

Great pickup Swags, some really nice looking rifles. Great thread when Freakingstang added his stuff into it.

Used to have a sks Chinese years ago and sold it when I got out of shooting. It always would stovepipe the last round. Could never fix the problem and sold it way too cheap. What causes or how do u fix stovepiping in a sks. Thats when the nose of the round comes too high loading into chamber and bolt slams it into action sideways jamming the gun and wrecking the bullet case. And always on last round never any other. Dont have the gun but the question drives me nuts to this day.

I've got a few boxes of some really nice 150 & 180g Norma hunting ammo that you might want. I had quite a collection of Nagants and an SVT-40 too years back. Traded all the old military 7.62 x 54 ammo I had, but I have still held on to that Norma. ;)

My guess is the mag. follower. My SKS has been flawless with its factory fixed mag., hates Tapco detachables, and stovepiped with a Chinese "Star" 20 rnd. fixed mag. The arm and follower were horrible with that one.
Not exactly refined pieces of equipment, gonna have some rough spots somewhere.

I tinkered and tinkered and could never get it. For what they were selling for a couple years ago made me wish I had not sold it 10 years ago for 75 $.

Added a 20 round mag to the sks today. I'll need to get another couple of mags to have around. It was a lot easier then I had thought before.

Next is ordering the dust cover for a scope.
