I was following this guys build on the diy forum, but how the heck do you blow the glass out of a pellet stove! Scroll down towards the bottom of the thread to see the post! German House Rebuild
I have had our Quad 1000 pop pretty good a few times. The pot gets a bit of clinker at the igniter or some larger pellets and it starts to build smoke really good in the fire box, and then it all of a sudden ignites with a cawhump Just the right amount of combustible gas and air mix and it can go off
Wood gas(smoke) has caused a few to change their shorts!! My old quad would pop pretty good, If I didn't keep the air holes in the pot cleaned out. Once they started to clog with carbon, It would get smokey er on starts up. IMHO any stove that has smokey starts will pop to a degree........... The more the smoke, The loader and stronger the pop/bang/pow. Some of new quads have blown their door glass out. Had a recall on them to replace the control(or its firmware-IIRC). Wish I could find that old quad youtube video it was a classic!!
I found that the light pine pellets lit the easiest in the quad. The worst KA POP we had was with the original ceramic fire pot and ceramic igniter. The updated steel pot with the Double U shaped igniter seems to have fixed all that stuff. The thing will smoke pretty good if there is a clinker over the igniter slot, but when it does fire off it just lights off and the smoke clears out and it's off to the rodeo. Those explosions were likely one of the reasons Quad went to the steel pot, besides that fact that the ceramic pots would disintegrate and the bottom fall out right in the middle of a burn after a year or two. Not a pretty sight having the fire down in the ash pan.
Any stove that has a lot of smoke could have a "pop"! As smoke is combustible. That's why almost every woodstove made has something to burn the leftover smoke (secondary combustion or catalytic combustion). And a few pellet stoves also have these features (secondary combustion only that I know of). But if it blows the glass apart? Then you had some major problems going on. My Quad Classic Bay 1200 would pop more than any other, but it also had a great deal of airflow. So by the time it finally lit? There was more smoke throughout the entire system
had a violent failed ignition in the Serenity a few weeks ago, loud boom and firebox was full of smoke and it was leaking out the air wash holes.no blown out glass luckily.Called Ardisam about it and the tech. said it was not enough air at start up so he had me open the air gate up a bit, but that was enough to scare the chit out of the wife.
