20251029_144809.jpg I've had this bar for at least 4 years.
Never had the slightest Hint this was going to happen . And I had put on a new chain 1/,2 cord before this happened .

Not a fan of getting stuck but if you cut wood it's bound to happen at some point. I try to always have a few wedges with me to prevent it before it happens. But I've been out in the woods without them and gotten a surprise pinch or two!!!

But I've never broken a bar...

    YET!!!

Has to be a metallurgy issue.

Was that mostly composite where it snapped? or was it mostly steel there?

I have one Stihl lightweight bar and a couple of the TsuMura but I don't have any of the Husqvarna light bars.

Interesting right at the point of the dogs. Sugi makes them. I've only known Sugis to have breakage back by the mount holes thusfar.

Pretty certain they are made by Sugihara.
I have 2 Sugi’s and have for many years. Longest is 20, they’ve been great. I don’t stress bars much though. If they’re stuck I either grab another saw or wedges.

Some days you're the windshield. Some days you're the bug.

Right at the end of the dogs too. I’m guessing it gets lateral stress there a bunch.

Never broken a bar but have worked with hundreds of fractures. Hang it on the wall for sure! Your time to be the bug.

    Was
Wasn't stuck . I pulled the remains of the bar out with my hand . I tapped in a wedge to get the chain out as it was a Brand new chain

Yup. In the 4 years since I bought it new . I've limbed and bucked probably 75 cord with this bar . I have only once or twice had it hung up . Then it was just tap in a wedge (plastic fallin wedge) a little and out it came . Ya can't make a living cuttin timber if ya get hung up all the time. I haven't really examined it closely since it happened .

I will do my best to remember to post more pics tomorrow when I'm around 5 bars of 5G.
As I was bucking that fat Birch log , I could feel the cut just starting to close and was bringing the tip out to run it back in . Like I always do as I'm bucking . All the sudden the saw started vibrating violently and making a weird Bad noise i instantly popped the brake and shut it down and realized the powerhead was no longer connected to the whole bar . But , the chain was.

Not too much . Compared to hundreds of other bars that I've had . I haven't done much falling with this bar . Falling timber will put a lot of stress on a bar. And I have bent bars , had bars get twisted lengthwise . Had lots of tips blow , had bars crack through the oiler hole and chain adjuster holes . But never had this happen.
Looking at the grain of the steel at the break . It looks crystallized. I think it's a manufacturing defect. Over hardened and not annealing. Ie brittle

    Holy chit! That's almost unbelievable.

I pinch bars often enough and may have squished a tip or two, :emb: but never broke one.

I wonder what Husqvarna would say if you sent pics to them?

Yes, I have wrecked lots of bars . But never when just making a totally Normal buck like I was .
Being old , and with a life time of making a living with chainsaws. I don't get hung very often at all . And , I Always have 2, bar wrenches on me , one in the side belt pouch on my chaps . And one in the side tool pocket of my riggin pants .
If/when I get really hung up . And it's not a situation I can wedge out of. First thing I do is pull the powerhead off. Have to , to put a spare bar and chain on . To fall a driver into the tree I'm hung in or to buck out my stuck b+c .
Kinda of a , protect the powerhead at all costs kinda thing .
If the chain is still spinning , most of the time the whole saw can be pulled from the cut without tearing the mounts up . Another reason I run longer bars and do almost all my cutting with the front half of the bar .
