Let me start off by saying that I live in a suburban area with lots less than a 1/3 of an acre 12 miles outside of the Chicago Loop. However, my neighbor is a Nazi...she makes a fuss every time I have a backyard fire. I've got a fire pit that's not huge sold by a big box store. I burn very seasoned wood...mostly maple. I adjust the wood constantly to keep a low smoke fire going. I don't play music or in anyway act like a jerk.

Drives me nuts that people are like this. She claims allergy issues. My neighbors 2 doors down have fires all the time but they are outside of her reach. She and I both have corner lots with a street separating our backyards. I'm 40 feet away from her deck when I'm burning.

I really need to relocate. Want to move up near Minneapolis / St. Paul and live just over the border in Wisconsin. Can't handle stupid urbanites. I'm not from here, and I don't see things the way they do. Most of my neighbors are very laid back. She's a wench. Rant complete..... :firepit::hair::headbang:

We've got the same across the street from me. Everything I do, they are a thorn in my side. Even complain when I am using my smoker. You could move into their house, would solve both our problems.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately when you live that close together, you either have great neighbors or you get what you got. I have one of those behind me, they don't complain about my backyard fires, I complain about his barking dog 24/7. They don't seem to know what it's like to have a pet. Why have a dog if you can't train it and care for it. This is your post, not my time to rant.

If you are not violating rules, then when she complains, ignore her, or tell her she could go to a restricted community where they think like she does.
I couldn't live on a third acre. I have no neighbors in view from my place. Best that way for all concerned.

Nah...I'm good. Speak your piece. It's good to have a place to vent. My neighbor is a jerk. She's a middle manager prima donna set in her ways. No kids....late 50's. Have 3 homes now. I wish she would move and sell this one already.

CITIDIOTS..................aren't they precious? Had enough of that kind of nonsense in 1982 and moved 500 miles NORTH to get away from it. Nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile down the road thru the bush. I'm Happy,Happy,Happy...............

Burn willow and LOTS of it! While enjoying your fire, find a nice rifle to clean.

Oh she would have loved my burning brush all afternoon today. Some old and dry and some green after cutting down a dozen or so smallish trees

FC... You should host the next Firewood Hoarder's G2G. She prolly wouldn't think the fire smoke was so bad compared to about 20 chainsaws screamin' the blue fume her way... and when she complains, you could tell her you were just making cookies. Hope you get a chance to move soon. No one should have to suffer city life.

Right where I want to be.
We were fairly lucky with neighbors when we lived in the city, in a neighborhood, 12' from the neighbor on either side.
Now, we have a snowbird on one side through the woods and swamp to the east and a nice young woman to the west across the power line.
Both are about 100 yds. away.
I am soooooooooooooo happy we don't live any closer, even though they're nice.
To be honest, we'd like even more land.
Do whatever you can to get out. Be happy.
Maybe buy her an air purifier.:D

It's is very unpleasant having a bad neighbor. I think I would just tell her politely, I'll let you know when I am going to have a fire so you can stay in the house or go out to dinner or something. I wouldn't give her the choice of "I'll stop burning". What if you had allergies to fresh cut grass would she stop mowing when you were out.

Sorry to hear this Firecracker. If your allowed to have a fire in your town/city/township? Then I would continue on doing what your doing. If your serious about moving? I highly suggest to get as far as possible in the boonies.

I have a neighbor a couple hundred yards to the side of me, the other side is block by trees. Nothing behind me but woods and nothing across the street, except a big corn field. Being an hour away from work has its Cons, but every time I come home to peace and quite? I realize all the Pro's. :) I work in Cleveland and commute 57.4 miles one way everyday. When I get home, I want to relax and not worry about fussy neighbors.

I may be in the minority... but I would offer an olive branch of something you made/grew or a service for free to her - make her feel guilty for being a wench.

I've always found it funny how folks that live close to other people have no social capabilities. I can barely see any of my neighbors places but I always bring them extra produce from the garden or a pumpkin bread around Christmas - never had a complaint from any of them;)

Your neighbors are that way because they are not all crammed in with each other. Country folks usually are peaceful people without reasons to be mean.
