The top was blown out of a tree at a local cemetery, initially I was thunking Ponderosa but the shear amount or limbs has made the hamsters start spinning the wheel.
I'm not sure of the variety of pine, but I'm pretty sure it isn't Ponderosa pine. I live in one the largest Ponderosa pine forests in the world and have them in my backyard. The needles look similar, but the bark is very different. Here's a pic of one for comparison. I don't think I've ever seen a Ponderosa pine with limbs so close together as well.
If you zoom in it looks like the bundles vary and that might suggest the tree to be a cultivar or possible hybrid. This is a fun one!
Looks like a white pine from a distance, whose needles come in clusters of 5. If that’s the case, better get permission from King George before you go stealing his ship mast.
Looks like Eastern white pine to me. Most common pine in my area. Very brittle. Common to see broken limbs after high winds or wet snow/ice storms.
I will look at mothers Eastern White Pine & compare bark/needles. White Pine is what popped into my head based on the limb structure.
I have cut some Ponderosa before & I didn’t think the bark was similar. We have several Ponderosas around so I guess that’s why I initially thought that’s what it was.
That's Eastern whit pine. Looks like it had a bunch of rot in it causing it to fail. Did it miss the headstones?
It twisted one & knocked another over. I was able to straighten the twisted one & stand the other up.
