Ordered 3/8 sprocket and 24 inch bar and chain for JRed 2260. Ordered piston stop and clutch tool at same time to help with changeover. Piston stop too big for plug hole. Any idea what Baileys stop part number will fit 2260? Tried the rope plug but cylinder rolled over which is not good. Anyone help would be appreciated.
I like the rope trick.. I stuff about 2-3 ft in there. Works well. Never had one turn over. How much did you feed into the cylinder?
Amen, rope is the way to go. I like to position the piston just to the point where the exhaust port is blocked and then stuff as much nylon rope in as I possibly can. Never had one turn over like this either.
Thanks for the response - I was not stuffing near enough rope in - only had about an inch stuck in there. Just got it by taking your suggestion. Now I have new problem - they sent he wrong sprocket. Center is too big for 2260 splines. Will see if I can find one locally tomorrow. Don't know if Stihl has sprocket that will fit?
Make sure you get the piston to the top of the cylinder before stuffing a bunch of rope in there........ don't want it getting stuck in the exhaust port. Don't ask me how I know
Yes - luckily I found out about getting the piston above the exhaust port before using rope while breaking down a parts saw with blown top end - had a nice chuck of rope stuck between piston/cylinder. I've been using my brass stop on saws with blown top ends since is a little quicker, and rope on saws with good top ends. I haven't tried using the plastic stops yet. Cheers!
I use a piece of 3/8" core and sheath rope. It is very pliable and large enough to avoid entering the ports.
Definitely use the rope or impact gun methods ............................... do not use a piston stop tool. I used a stop tool a bunch of times until I did this to my 460's OEM piston!
