Right where I want to be.
Ours has been giving us fits lately and getting worse.
We don't like it anyway, so ....there's that.
Need some ideas/opinions on a new top loader. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, we'll need at least a 4 cu ft model. Don't need a lot of bells and whistles, but it seemslike they all have 'em nowadays. Might be doing this tomorrow, and I may take the trailer with me so I can swap 'em out when I get home.
This one is an LG. Need reliability. Going to the laundromat gets expensive.
    Help please.

We've been happy with our Samsung, and have heard good things about Maytag. The maytag commercials are cool too.

I'm not brand specific when buying an appliance since it seems like so many of them anymore are all made buy the same manufacturer. What I am particular about is WHO I buy from. I am lucky in the fact that in my area there are 2 or 3 mom and pop dealers that have been in business for several generations. I may pay a little more for the appliance but if I should need service I want to deal with someone who knows there chit and that I have had a good retail buying experience with over the years. Not some part time nose picker from a big box store. But then I'm old school when it comes to buying a big dollar appliance. I still think they should last at least 20 years. Coarse we all know they don't anymore but by God for the price, they ought to.

I had a whirlpool cabrio. Lasted 4 years before trouble. I wouldn't recommend it. We just bought a new one but I haven't been home to see it yet.

We had one of those new style fancy front loaders that lasted about a year and a half with just 2 people living in the house. Replaced it with a basic top loading Whirlpool w/o all the bells and whistles. Been running strong for 4 years now................Happy, Happy............Happy.

We bought a Samsung top loader washer and dryer almost 2 years ago to the day. We do a ton of laundry. Just spent $75 on parts to keep it from going out of balance and I did the work to replace them. 10 minutes start to finish. Our electric bill went down when we bought the set by at least $30 a month and the ones we had before them weren't too old. They work well but aren't cheap. Not sure if I'd completely recommend them because of the $75 in parts but we really do a lot of laundry. Pile of kids running around here.

    Samsung model # WA40P JHDWR/AA 02

I was always gonna go to one of the big appliance parts warehouse and ask the guys there what brand they would buy. Figured since they sell parts for all the brands that they would know the best. If that doesnt work just buy what the wife wants!:D

Dunno. I gave an LG that's been trouble free. It's a crap shoot these days.

The last new fridge I bought started screwing up at the 2 year mark, so I quit buying new appliances.
CL is a great resource for replacement appliances. Even if you get a lemon (I haven't) you can buy quite a few replacements for the price of one new one with only a 1 year warranty. I suppose the CL "selection" is better if you live near a bigger city...

I heard alot of the new top loaders have an upright that tilts instead of an agitator. Maybe brokenwing or another here can add more info?

I have a Kenmore front end loader. It has broken a few times. I am a stubborn old fart so I go to YouTube and follow how to fix it. So far so good. Point, they are not built to last, not built to repair. Lots of plastic junk out there. Find a repair service person you can trust. Ask what machine seldom needs fixing. Last bunch of appliances I bought were all Whirlpool. So far, so good. There are a couple appliance repair forum out there. Give them a look see.

Found a couple GE models with good "reviews", which I don't always trust. Some of those folks don't sound like they could fight their way out of a plate of soft boiled eggs......with a sharp knife.
This will be an "adventure", as we'll have FIL with us. I don't want to rush.
Tomorrow's another day, and plans may change, but it's very hard to get laundry done when the machine craps out in the middle of a load, then just buzzes at you when trying to restart. So, we need a new machine.
    Appreciate all the responses.

Dave, also consider if a front loader or top loader is easier for the person that runs it. I had a frontloader but frankly I wonder if a top loader would make it easier to get the clothes from the washer into the dryer. Or not....

I bought a set of Maytag about 11 or 12 years ago. My neighbor recommended them for the quietness, since my last ones was free from college and loud. I've only replaced the low heater on the dryer about 4 years ago on the dryer but that was a fairly easy fix. But Well Seasoned yes the their commercial are pretty awesome...

Hated digging clothes out of the front loader. May have had something to do with the laundry tub between the washer and dryer. Why anyone would do that, I have no idea. This house is the same way , but we have an old top loader here. Ours was also sitting on the floor, but I expect it is easier if it's up on a pedestal.

We had the absolute cheapest front loader we could buy in the old house, Fridgidaire I believe. And absolutely trouble free for 10+ years. Got lucky, I think.

I like the simple, old top load machines. You can pick them up for free or next to nothing as people 'upgrade'. And if they break they are usually cheap and easy to fix. Don't know where the break even point would be, but I bet it would take a long time for the efficiency of a $1200 machine to get there.
