I was cutting some elm yesterday and kinda lost track of my tip for a minute. There was a round laying next to the log I was sawing and the tip caught it. The bar kicked and knocked a few bearings out of the tip. I'm looking for recommendations for a new bar. The husky bar I had is retailing for around $45. I would like to keep it around that price point but am willing to look at other options if there are better bars that would work in my situation.

    Details:
    Jonsered cs2165 saw
    20" bar
    3/8 pitch
    .058 gauge
    72 drive links

I'm also shopping for a 24" bar possibly so recommendations are welcome there as well.

    Just thought of something else...
For a 24" bar, should I keep the same pitch and gauge for simplicity sake or are there better options? Do different saws require different dimensions (not sure if that is the proper term)? Sorry for all the questions. I'm learning as fast as I can.

My saw only gets used for firewood gathering.

Husky and Jred normally run .058. No need to change unless you have a few Stihls that normally run .050.

MG2186 has good prices and can hook you up

I try to keep them all the same gauge, usually .050, which has been on every new Husky I've bought. Must be a regional thing.

I like the RSN's Husky/Oregon too. I have a few and they've held up well.

If you can afford it, consider a Sugi or Tsumura. The 2 I've bought have worn very very little with time. I've not had to dress one yet!

I found a tsumura that would fit for $36 which was surprising because I thought they were expensive. I dont know what shipping will cost though. Would that be a better choice then? I've only ever run husky and Oregon bars.

IMO, yes. I've heard the Tsumura's hold up just like the Sugi. You'll definitely notice the difference, much better steel used. Worth the extra coin.

    That's the price for a 20" from shopcomstocklogging.com

They dont have a 24"tsumura with the proper gauge size.

The Tsumura solid bars are really a good value. Excellent steel and reasonable price. The Comstock site is giving me $15 to ship to PA. That's $51. Seems like a good deal to me.

I've had very good luck with Tsumura bars. I doubt you will be dissatisfied with it:

Bought it off Cole. Not currently sure I'm keeping it though.

Just placed my order for a 20" Tsumura bar, a 24" Oregon power match bar and 5 loops of 73LGX084 chain. Now it's a waiting game. It shouldn't take too long as it's only coming from New York. Pics to follow :D
