Levi is an older guy from our church that is very active and always helping. He is the first one their to open the church and get things going and usually the last to leave. He runs the bread ministry which is picking up bread from a bakery and taking it to the church for families to take home. He does much more as well and is always willing to help anyone. He suffered a stroke a few weeks ago that left him in the ICU for a while but is home now. He is back on his feet but can't cut split and stack firewood for his burner. There is a few guys from our church going over to his house next Saturday the 15th to cut for him. He has a bunch of logs there and is bringing more home from the campground he works at. If anyone wants to help we will be out there Saturday cutting splitting and stacking. Needed tools would be saws and splitters. Let me know if anyone wants to help. Location is east of Hartville OH, I think it's an Alliance address.
I'm close enough to help Swags but we will be having a 90th birthday celebration for my Dad. What time of day are you talking ?
Going to start at noon, there is a big breakfast at our church and we will be going after that. I might head over early though.
Bad timing here too Swags, that's got to only be about 15 minutes from me. I've got to be over in East Palestine taking my daughter to a volleyball tournament all day.
I had considered that but he does have lots of wood to process just can't process it right now. There will be 4-5 hip guys from church going over too so we should be able to get a lot done. A few guys have already helped him out shoe should be on good shape here soon. If he doesn't have enough wood I'll probably take him some wood from the G2G.
I am gonna try and get off this weekend. If I can't? Is this somewhere where we can go the Sunday after the GTG? I live close enough where I could go there all day? I would gladly stay an extra day to help someone.
Quick update for anyone wanting to come, cut is on Nimishilen Church just west of 44. Let me know if anyone wants to come. I will be there around 11am until whenever needed.
Charity cut went great today! Had 12 guys there and worked on the log pile that Levi had at his house. He was hoping that we could just get it all bucked up for him. I took my splitter figuring we could get more done. Ended up having two splitters running all morning. Had a tractor with a front end loader there too and it was all that guy could do to keep up with the two splitters and take the wood over to the shed where there was a few guys stacking. Had two 460s doing the cutting which really made that part go fast. Ended up with about 6 cord cut split and stacked in his shed. He was at a funeral today so still doesn't know how much was done, I'm sure he will be very excited at what all the guys were able to get done. Sorry no pics, work pace was very fast and I didn't even take time to snap any pictures. One thing that did speed it up was he burns an outdoor boiler so the splits were a lot bigger then I would normally do.
God bless all you guys, brother......that is awesome to hear. Wish I could've been there to help. Sounds like you are surrounded by a great group of people there. When I participate in charity events like that (just did one last weekend), man does it make you feel good at the end of the day. Knowing you helped a person out, it's hard not to let some emotions get the better of you...... You are another first-class member on the site for sure, Swags....
What are "hip guys" from church? Are these the cool guys? Or are these older gentlemen that can't move as fast from bad hips or hip replacements?
You guys doing volunteer firewood work just got a little boost tonight on NBC. They did a great piece about a firewood program in NH. Firewood is cool… who'da thunk it…
Was very gratifying talking to Levi today at church. He came up and thanked everyone involved. Told us that when he got home he literally cried because he was so happy and grateful for what was accomplished. He didn't think that much would get done and was blown away. Makes it worth so much more to have someone be that thankful.
Your a good man Swags. You and the guys from your church!! Good deed! Good people! And a man that appreciated every second of your work!!
