When cleaning out the ashes this morning i heard a clink in the shovel. I softed through and found these three pieces of metal. I “assume” at one time they were the same piece of metal but no clue if that is accurate. The two larger have a copper hue to them which makes me think possibly a bullet but again no clue... what do you think? It amazes me because there is a story I’ll never truly know!
Tough to tell as I'm sure the lead further distorted under the heat of your stove, but I think we can assume someone was probably hunting where that log was growing.
Looks like bullets to me also. I went through half a winter once finding bullets on almost every clean out. Cut a lot of trees from around our cabin. Let’s just say in our younger days we weren’t so responsible with the trees, loaded em’ up with lead.
I cut some locust close to the Gettysburg Battlefield last spring....found a civil war maxi ball in a piece right beside my cut...never touched it
We used a maple tree for target practice for years that tree is still alive I wonder what I might find in it if I where to cut it? Maybe someday I will find out.
Bout six years ago I cut down the tree that my dad taught me how to shoot on. Leads not too bad on a chain. Coppers a little worse. What really gets em is some of the WWII fodder that used a thin steel bullet jacket. Werent in production long and I think sort of rare. If only we had known they might be a collectors item now.
Yes it was...before (i beleive) 1971ish....you were allowed to search for civil war relic with a metal detector in the gburg battlefield
