Was it buZZsaw BRAD that coined that phrase? I want to give credit where it’s due.

So, a friend of mine threw a bunch of 18-20” long rounds into my truck while I was at work the other day. He was cleaning up his yard. The wood has been stacked against his fence since he moved in. He lives in Denver. He said he didn’t know what it was, but he knew I wouldn’t let it go to waste. He’s right about that. It’s definitely hardwood. It’s all really solid, for being on the ground for several years. Two different species. I’m hoping you guys and gals can help me identify it.

Species 1. It’s the heavier of the two. Splits clean and straight.

Species 2. Definitely hardwood, but not as heavy as the other firewood.

    Both species, all mixed up.

I also split a bunch of Pine and Doug Fir kindling today.

    Thanks for your help, friends!

First pics look like Norway maple to me, bark and wood grain. Second species… I’m not too sure

X2 on the Norway. Splits clean and easy as mentioned. Comparable to ash in terms of btu's and dry time IMO.

The second might be white walnut. The stringy bark and chambered pith are my clues. If so not the best for btu's but dries fast. Both are common yard trees.

Nice score regardless of what they are.

The bark on the second one almost looks like cherry.
