He's leaning 75/25 in favor of getting the regular carb. version over the M-Tronic version. He'll probably go a 20-inch bar w/RS33 chain for now. He has a Jonsered CS2258, which we both love. Every once in a while, out of the blue, it'll run like crap for a while. Then it runs great again, makes no sense. So, we're gonna take to our dealer, (Stihl, Husky/Jonsered) to have him check it over. It's an Auto-Tune saw, and the reason he's leaning towards the regular carb. on the MS462. The only saw I have that has M-Tronic/Auto-Tune is my MS400C-M, no issues with it at all, I really like it. Not that I'm in the market for another 50cc saw, but if I was, I'd grab a MS261C-M. Nothing at all against the 550XP MK II, I like really them and heard they cut a little faster too. I just prefer the lighter weight, bar angle and operating controls on Stihl saws. But I do love my Husky's too. NYH1.
I would go V2 with M-Tronic. 462s seemed to be the least trouble M-tronic saws in the Stihl lineup. The V1 has known issues, but are unrelated to M-Tronic.
I have the mtronic 462 and it is a great saw, probably my favorite. The power to weight is incredible. I have a 20” Stihl light bar on mine. Personally and professionally I have had zero issues with mtronic saws.
Have a Mtronic have had zero issues has cut about 50 cords, pulls a 24" bar just fine. Probably they easiest starting saws I have. It starts in the first 6-8 inchs of the pull. When I run it every day it will start first pull. If its been a minute second or third pull she fires. It has good manners and is a pleasure to run. They say the 572 Husky is a good saw.
If he's not in a hurry maybe the 400.1? I've yet to own a Stihl but this one has me interested (<--that's really profound for me). Same power as my 70cc jonsered but two pounds lighter. Nobody seems to know when they will be available for sale here but most forecast sometime this year. I will be looking at them.
This is why I bought the 592 XPG for the heat. We shouldn't have to try and source them from Canada. I wanted a big cc saw with heat. I like my Stihls, what choice are they giving? I had huskil port it. Have a 500 ported by him as well. Its 10ish cc bigger, and handles getting dogged in on a cut way better than the 500. I can really lay into it pretty well. Was 24 when I was cutting yesterday morning, sure was nice. I am looking forward to when it gets cold. Nothing worse than ice forming in the gloves. Pending I may have him port a 572 XPG.
I have an mtronic 462 and have had zero issues with it. Also owning a 400 & 500 its the most neglected of the three. It got used Sunday as i was too lazy too swap the 20" bar out to the 400. The only issue I've noticed with my mtronic saws is they are sometimes finicky in hot weather on hot starts, other than that I'm very pleased. Regardless of which version he gets, he wont be disappointed.
Im waiting for the 400.1 myself. More than likely my next saw purchase. I've inquired at local dealers and none have heard anything.
I have a 362CM. My dad's old saw is a regular carb 362. His saw has been back to the shop 3-4 times...mine never has been....and has cut 10x the wood. Personally, I would spend the extra 2 Benjamins and get a 500.
I was thinking it would be cheaper than the 400 but if it’s made in Germany it will get the tariff hammer.
