I seen this on CL last night and had to suffer all day waiting to call the guy and see if it was still available. He said it was his father in laws and he had bought it new. I've got a few engine options and am not sure what I'll do. It does need a lot of work. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Now that's a nice looking project! It looks a lot like mine when I got it... It was well worth the effort and is a thing of pride when your done. That certainly looks like one unique splitter.

No mine is a homemade unit but looks very similar. Well did before I restored and modified the snot out of it.

That cylinder rod is trashed. It will be very fast on the return stroke being that large.

It's bad when the rod is left extended out! Better plan on a new ram.....

Keep eating that popcorn. I'm slow with projects so be patient. I'll try to keep up on the repairs.

I make tons of calls and get beat out quite a bit. I keep tryin though cause it's the thrill of the chase. I totally lucked out on this one another buyer beat me there but passed because the tires looked dry rotted. :)

Great find. I looked for over 7 yrs. for the one I got and it was in close to the shape yours is in when I got it though it did have the original engine.
I bent the old worn out top plate a few yrs. after I got it going and had to replace it, figured I'd spiff it up a bit while I had it down.

How does that work? I thought the rod was junk on the cylinder, looked like a mx of rust and pant, but yours is done up the same minus rust.

The small part is a 3" cylinder (reversed), the larger on the rear is a 5" cylinder. It has a pressure controlled shift valve that moves a diverter valve to transfer the oil between the 2.

That thing is sweet! I may be getting a hold of you to pick your brain and get some advice. I still dont understand the cylinder but hit the plate with a hammer and the springs pulled it back. Ive got an old Briggs that would look good on it,ill post pic later today.

I'm interested in where this rebuild goes too. Seen a few guys picking up older equipment in decent shape, still holding a few ounces of life in them. It's nice to see guys like you, who have the time, bring these units back to life.

I'm not sure I have the time but I try to squeeze in as many projects as I can. I don't think mine will look as shiny as super3's but I'll do my best. :emb:

Mine looked about as rough as yours when I first got it. It was built in 69'.

I'm not sure when mine was built. Seller said FIL bought it new in 1959 but I know that's wrong, tag says Piqua so it has to be later. image.jpg
