Yanmar 1720D- 17 pto hp 3 cylinder diesel, 3 speed + reverse gear driven "shuttle" power shift, 4 speed transfer case (with a crawl gear that is amazingly/almost uselessly low geared), 3 speed pto, diff-lock, etc. Honda 450 Foreman Both 4X4's and handling years worth of abuse very well. The ATV will pull a 1/3 cord of wet oak up most of the hills on my place without losing traction. The Yanmar will handle a ~22"x 8' log before the back wheels are in the air more than on the ground. (Yes it's abusive and dangerous)
Fox, what kind of set up do you have on the loader bucket for lifting logs, I know how heavy those logs can get.
Homemade It's built out of 2x4x1/4 tubing and the forks are axle shafts I've broken in my rock crawlers. The bucket is removed to install the forks and v. v.
I built the forks to unload a gooseneck load of Petra Stone and brick, plus moving it around on the job site. But I knew there would be soooo many other uses.
Thanks Dex. Its no golf course but I bought the land cheap and built the house myself. Po folks got po ways.
I like your setup too. I live in the burbs so my wood harvesting options are limited. Envious of some of you guys walking out your back door to 20 acres and getting a days work and collecting a cord. I gotta travel for mine.
So Fox how tricky was it to weld up the mounts for the log lifter, I need to make something like that for brush and logs.
Nothing to it. I measured the width of the mounts, add an 1/8. The bolts will pull down the slack, a BFH will make more room. Just make sure you get the full range of movement without the cylinders or something else binding.
