My 6 year old is crazy about firewood and always wants to help. I process wood to sell at my moms farm about 10 minutes away. When I got my new splitter my son asked if he could use the old one to split at home. Since Christmas he has split about 4-5 cords mostly on his own. About a month ago he wanted to start a firewood stand in front of our house. So I built this very basic rack out of our neighbors deck she tore down. We stocked it up with seasoned wood I split a while ago, put a lock box out there and he made up his signs. Since we live in a neighborhood we don't get much traffic so I posted on the local Facebook community pages and in 2 weeks he has $35 in sales. He is very excited as firepit weather is upon us.
Hard word = cash in hand. A fine life lesson for people at your son's age. It should serve him well. Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Great for you and a life lesson for him. It is rare now a days to find a youngster wanting to DO any work. I had about given up on the 20 something generation until last year. I was laid up when my 22 and 28 year-old grandsons, with some friends, came out to work the wood pile. My gosh they CSSed an amazing amount of wood. All is not lost. I guess it is all in how they were raised. On a side note. I remember when my son was perhaps 13 years old. He always wanted to make some money. We were putting up fence, digging all the corner post by hand. I told him he should dig a few post holes by the road and put a for sale sign in them. Told him I would gladly buy some post holes. He was to smart for that farce.
This wood stand was all his idea. I made him replace my seasoned wood that's out there with wood that he split which isn't ready to burn yet. He is also responsible for refilling the racks so I can't take much of any credit but I am very proud of him and offer full encouragement.
