It's time I mentioned what's been hapnin with me, because there are so many men on this forum. And it's a big family so, here goes. Like so many guys before me, I found out I have prostate cancer in Feb. I'm 64. I feel fine btw. Lots of tests since have shown the cancer hasn't spread, and that one very important thing has been quite an education. Turns out prostate cancer is curable if it's caught before it spreads beyond the prostate. I had no symptoms. It was flagged by simple & easy PSA blood tests at my docs office. And mine was close to spreading at a stage 3 aggressive cancer. Again... I had/have no symptoms. I do have a lot of cancer on my side of the family and it was almost not a surprise to hear I had it too. After 3 dif opinions from docs, I've decided to have surgery to remove the prostate on Monday. I'm very lucky and am in very good hands with the treatment, and of course my bride. She's amazing. So... to... Every. Single. Guy. in the FHC family...... If you're 50, get your PSA checked every 6 months. If your Dad had prostate cancer, you're 50 times more likely to have it too (I will urge my son to start PSA screening when he's 40) Any cancer in the family is a red flag, but not the only indicator. Remember... if caught early enough... prostate cancer is curable. That's it... over and out... ... ... now, go chop some wood... ...
Excellent advice Stinny. I hope things stay in check for you and your treatment is successful. Prayers up.
We're all here for you buddy... We will be praying for a successful day on Monday and a quick and complete recovery. You have too many projects in the works to get slowed down with any medical issues!
Prayers offered, Good luck on Mon. Takes a lot to announce such personal info on a public form, good to you. I have had the tests done annually for a few years and now will ask about the 6 month intervals.
I get a free psa test through the health fair at work every year...some docs say psa test is too unreliable, gives false confidence. My Gramps had it...they botched his surgery and it spread...got into his kidneys IIRC...I was just a lil guy back then. Of course thats why the local horsepital is nicknamed the last lap too. Anyways, best of luck on Monday!
Hate to hear about the cancer, but glad to hear it was caught early. Hope you have a trouble free surgery, and a speedy recovery. My maternal grandmother died of cancer in the late 70's, was hard to watch as a young kid. Otherwise, our family has been cancer free. Being 50, I'm sure I'll be discussing testing with my doctor in the near future.
Agreed - there are several factors that can result in elevated PSA levels. However, ALWAYS best to have things checked to be sure.
Glad to hear it was caught. Best of luck for the surgery. We need you around here for many more decades. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers folks. It's very much appreciated. I got a message today from a friend who echo'd the idea of getting screened early and often. His was caught with a PSA test when he was 45 years old. Also had the surgery and has been doing fine for over over 15 years since. I'm hoping to follow that lead...
God Bless Stinny Mrs Stinny , can't wait for your and your bride to go boating on your motorized hontoon-cat boat this summer!
