My clutch was going bad so I am trying to change it. I ordered new factory parts from my OPE Stihl dealer. The new drum does not fit. I called my OPE dealer and gave them the part numbers on the new drum and they insist they are the right parts. Old drum It fits and spins freely like it should New drum The new drum binds up on the brake. The brake is released. It is not binding on the oil pump spinner. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Not the same number. Old drum Part number. 1147 160 2900 New drum part number: 1135 160 2900 The OPE parts guy says parts numbers change all of the time but the old one fits with clearance and the new one can be fit in but it rubs hard on the brake band. I do not see the drum spinning without damaging something. I might need to take it in on the weekend. I just thought i might be missing something simple.
I barely made it before they closed but it is defiantly the wrong part. They need to get ahold of stihl because the drum I got was listed as the correct part.
Don't you just LOVE being the exception to the rule !! I've even had companies deny ever making something I'm clearly looking at. The old "never seen or heard of that before" speech.
I brought the saw, the new drum and the old drum in. I showed the parts guy the old one fits and the new one doesn't. He wanted to try, " oh that doesn't fit." He went into the back and got their mechanic. He tried, got out his pen light shined it on the saw, tried again, " it doesn't fit." I said grab the ms362c off the shelf pull the cover off and see what number is stamped on the drum. The number in the drum was the same as on mine. They left me a voicemail telling me they sorted it out with Stihl. Should be a couple days. Ill use my ms251 in the mean time. I bought new chain bumpers when i was there, 7 bucks.
Glad you got it sorted put. I looked a a bunch of IPL's for that saw and NONE of them had a part # listed for the drum.
Well, now I'm gonna have to check my 362 & see what it's got. As soon as I get it back with a fresh port job from huskihl anyway.
It might be a version 1 versus the version 2 kinda thing. I doubt most dealers know there’s a difference
Let me know how that goes, I've been considering getting the saw ported. I also keep thinking about getting a 70cc saw. However I rarely ever cut wood over 20".
Oh there's no doubt how it'll go, Kevin already did my 036 pro. It's my absolute go too firewood saw. It runs 20" full comp 3/8 chain & absolutely rips. It'll run with my stock & very healthy 046 all day. That's why I decided to do another saw in the same cc class. I would call a port job a must on that size saw. 35% gain in the cut!
