So I've been away for a while. No I wasn't locked up or anything like that. Got a question and I'm sure its been covered. How hard is it to rebuild and MS310? I believe the rings gave out on the ole girl. Anyone have any good links for the parts needed. It was the first saw I bought myself and been a good one. Replaced it for now with a 291. Thanks.
Not terribly hard to do, but tricky if you haven’t done an 1127 series saw yet. If the piston still has machine marks and isn’t scored, go with Caber rings. No AM fuel lines for this series are “ok.” Remove the rear bar stud using the double nut technique. Clean everything, take pics.
I also rebuild carbs, do muffler mods, and inspect everything (bearings—-plastics) during top end rebuilds. If the cylinder is badly scored or plating is coming off, then an upgrade to a ms390 p/c is nice. Some aftermarket are decent, but not much consistency there.
I did a muffler mod a couple years back. I ordered an aftermarket 390 p/c combo for the heck of it. The reviews were mostly good on the one I ordered most others were like you said real inconsistent. It will be a project saw for me and my boys.
Cool... they’ll like it. Remember the coil lead configuration and get some Dirko for sealant. Don’t trust the block to be sealed perfectly; look it over and be sure the seals have some sealant around them. Did you get the short block? Trim limiters off of the carb, retune with the bigger engine.
So I got it all back together, sorry didn't take any pictures. Got it started and all but not tuned yet. Need to take it back apart cause I think I broke the ground wire.
Got it all running, needs a little better tune job but work got in the way. Anyone know can I get a .325 sprocket for it instead of the standard 3/8?
So now I'm kind of stumped. Saw will start but shuts right off. I had it turned great at first. Could it just be my impulse line, no I didnt replace that. Sorry move on my part. I did do the fuel line, just got sloppy.
