Anyone ever muffler mod a ms310? Is it worth doing and how exactly do you go about it. The saw runs good but I think it could do better.

This is the same muffler that's on a 290 and 390 as well. These saws benefit greatly from a muffler mod. :dex:

Someone will be along shortly.

Dex is right, the 1127 series saws really wake up with a simple muffler mod. I'm sure someone will be able to provide photos, but if they don't surface we can talk you through it.

It's easy to assume everyone knows this so I'm not questioning your knowledge - just to be safe it needs to be said that you must be sure to re-tune the saw after modding the muffler.

    Good luck!

Thx Dex for posting my pic. I'm LD with my phone:picard:

I cut the muffler in two.

    Removed the baffles via grinding.

Brazed two pipes, one out the side and the other out front pointing downward. Then brazed original outlet closed and braze two halves back together.

The ms310 had a good pop sound to it and it really woke up

Stay tuned. I have a 390 on the bench right now. It's getting a muffler mod that will be a little more extreme than I have done in the past.

I have some ideas MM, but anxious to see what you do.. I want more out of my 390. Think about taking out of most of that depressed area to give it a straight shot out the front.

Take a lot from there and it will be obnoxiously loud. But I might relieve it a bit in that area.

I wear ear protection when I cut so loud is not that big a deal. Right now its no where close to as loud as the 650 is with the dual port and the OE port opened up twice original size. Will let y'all know when I do do it.

    And not burn out too!!

I can't believe the ms650/660. Those big saws with a hole just bigger than a pencil!

Maybe nor sure. I have seen a 461 here the last few days and it looks similar in size but still small.
