    I'd get the m-tronic.

I have a 260pro and love it and a 391. Both fine saws! I had an aversion to the m-tronic saws but after much internal debate bought the 362cm. Very happy with it and will probably go m-tronic from now on, at least for new saws. For your 261 I would go for the m-tronic.

I’ve used both saws and love them both. We have 3 regular 261’s at work and they have been typical rock solid Stihl saws. I recently bought the 261cm for a firewood saw. You can’t go wrong with either, so get whichever one is cheaper.

I'd recommend going with the Mtronic as it's been flawless on my 661 and not having another thing to mess with is rather nice.

After using the 261 for years I had high expectations when I bought the cm, especially since it cost more, but it feels about the same to me in the cut. The cm saw is Stihl great don’t get me wrong.
I got hammered on another forum when I told what I got the 3 261’s for. The Stihl dealers were telling me I was full of it, but I got 3 for 1200. Special circumstances for sure, but they were 399 ea.

Oh dang, don’t pay that for the older model.
Full retail should get the latest and greatest.
