Looks like Stihl plans to release a non m-tronic version of the 661. Does anyone know if there are still problems with the M-tronic? Was there a demand for the return of a non computer controlled saw? Just curious.

Mtron in the 661 is pretty well figured out now, but many loggers would rather stay away from the electronic stuff.

Plus Stihl knows in some applications like milling you have to tune extra rich. Also Mtronic doesn't seem to work well for the firefighters.

Do you know what exactly doesn’t work for firefighters? I’ve been milling with my 661 C-M. It obviously auto tunes. So far it’s all white pine so easy cutting. How bad do you think it might be for my saw by not being able to tune it rich?

Take it easy and run 32:1 and you should be fine.

Smoke and wild extreme temperature changes. Smoke is what is said to really get them, the system can't compensate correctly or fast enough.

Thanks for the advice. I definitely run a rich mixture. Interesting about the smoke issue. But when working in the smoke, one should not have to question the reliability of one’s saw.
