Went and bought myself an Oregon chain grinder (Amazon, $209 bucks with free delivery). I didn't get the high buck one with the hydraulic clamping mechanism, got the manual clamp version. I did however, buy the Diamond Wheel (1/8-325) CBN aluminum rimmed grinding wheel for it. Claimed to be able to dress close to 1000 loops before expiring, we will see. Not cheap but then nothing is cheap today. Unlike the standard wheels, you never radius dress it, just clean it with the supplied cleaning stick. Gave away my Timberline on bar sharpening jig to a buddy. No need for that anymore and no more buying files either (other than raker flat files). So far, so good. Took a bit of time to get all the angles correct but I can dress a loop in about 5 minutes now. The Oregon comes with a raker wheel but I probably won't use it. Easier to cut the rakers with a file and jig. Mounted it to the end of my welding table, just at the right height when sitting on a stool. The Diamond Wheel (CBN), unlike the standard red wheels won't burn a tooth when grinding and leaves no burr at all. Nice, well made unit for 209 bucks. Very sturdy, aluminum die castings and steel. One of my buddies has one and swears by it so I got one as well. They won't grind square tooth loops but then square tooth is always hand filed far as I know of. Only have one anyway and rarely use it.
