I'm not sure when I'll get all of these but the damaged Yellow Birch will come down tomorrow so I can split it with the stuff I cut today. The double trunk Red Maple (0870 &71) will be after the Yellow Birch and then all the bent over smaller stuff next, it's not anything huge but it all adds up.
The weather is nice and since I'm feeling better it's time I get some firewood. Most of the wood in the area I'm working is White Pine until you get to the south end of the lot and then we have a bunch of Maple with some Ash and we always have a few Cherry.
Growing up in a small village, I never thought that we would be back out in the country/foothills of the Adirondacks and have the property we do (we were lucky) we love it here so we'll work on making it a better place until we have to leave. Thanks Bogy
It's fun, isn't it? I did some cutting today too. Hopefully you can either wait or not get the 50 mph gusts we had today. I had my head on a swivel today in the woods. A few branches fell from the wind.
Made a short run for gas for a trip this coming early Wed morning. Saw many branches and two trees down where they had been on the road and removed. No scrounge would be worth the risk.
Depending on how much snow we get and when we get it, I'll plan on getting the topped off Yellow Birch, the small bent over Maple and possibly the double trunk Maple tomorrow.
I did get the Yellow Birch and the Red Maple (bent over) in picture 0880, I cleaned out around the bottom of the Yellow Birch before felling it....I hauled out 25 rounds of Yellow Birch and 23 of the smaller Red Maple rounds. In picture 0886 if you go straight back and then hang a left, it will give us an entrance to a small ravine but I'll need to clear the trail going in and then the mess in the small ravine. That will be work for next spring or this winter if we lose the snow.
Not yet, the one in the picture is the one Clifford gave me, I also bought his WoodBoss 280 a few years back which I just put in the back of the Rhino.
I really enjoy it. Makes unloading my flat bed trailer much quicker, plus stacking logs is quick and clean. Highly recommend one to anyone.
Looks like you had yourself a good days work @woodlands, I really like yellow birch. I get some, I'm right on the southern edge of it being really common.
All those densely packed trees look liky my back yard. Fire Chief says I need to cut cut cut till there is 10 to 20 feet between each tree.
