I got a few more chunks delivered from another tree service Rickyblazin and I will be busy this weekend I cut and split some today before the rain nice solid red oak the first picture is a round cut off the log in the 3rd picture the 592 with a 28 ate it right up JB
JB, I sure envy your relationship with your tree guy! I’ve talked and given my number twice to one of our guys without any result. I even offered to bring my stuff and load it myself if it was a “small” job and didn’t necessarily warrant his big equipment involvement. So far, I’ve heard nothing. I wonder if I’m going about it all wrong but he also processes it and sells by the load . I didn’t realize so many still burnt wood here where I reside bc his wood yard was full…..
Have you tried other tree services? Is there any wood listed for free for the taking on Facebook Marketplace?
I think 50 inches on the biggest one Brad…John pulled out quite the set up for those logs stay tuned!
Sorry I have been busy Brad the biggest is 52" there are some uglies in there but most of it is good and the uglies burn to and the splitter on the loader just chews them up but I do get a little sore on my finger from pushing the button back and forth I did get my big saw ready for Ricky Blazin to use to cut the big one Homelite 2100S with a 50 on it I am going to try to video him cutting it will be a couple of weeks yet I am going to the Woodsmans show in boonville this coming weekend JB
These tree guys are my customers at my saw shop so I have a good relationship with them already and I prefer this real big wood because I am set up to process it and it costs them to dispose of it because nobody wants it so anytime they get big stuff I take it . In your case I would try as many services as you can because most of them do not do firewood and they either chip with big chippers or they dispose of it at a mulch facility for a fee . Just be ready for big ugly stuff JB
Update on the split pile with the 3 we did in bags yesterday and the load in the truck we are up to @18 2 more and I will hit my 20 mark for this round this is 4 rounds of the red oak I split with loader that is a 10 ft bed JB
They are 1/3 cord these are not the ones I usually use they were out of stock of my regular bags hopefully in this month the ones I usually use seem to be a little better you can see them at Shaver Specialty services online I really like them better than the IBC crates because they hold more and when they are empty they take up less room for storing this is my second year on the first batch and they seem to hold up well I would not be stacking any wood if I had bags available . I made the filling rack out of 1 1/2 heavy wall square tubing ,Shaver sells the rack but it was a little pricy for me JB
Wow , look at the size of that thing. I don't mind big wood but that would be pushing me to the limit.
Uglies for sure. I’m noodling those and throwing on a chunk pile typically. Time suckers but there’s good wood to be had.
Big boy rounds. A few of those look gnarly and knotted. At least red oak isn't stringy. A splitter will either split it, cut through the knots, or run out of steam.. but you shouldn't end up with a stringy, twisty mess like you do with some big knotty rounds.
