I bought a cheap $12 meter couple of years ago that is either this one or looks a lot like it -- Portable Wood Moisture Meter Analyzer Tool Timber Tester Damp Humidity Detector | eBay

The top button is "power" to turn it on and the button below that is "hold." What is this "hold" button for? I note that when it is on, if I just stick the prongs into the wood, it gives a reading. I thought maybe I could press that hold button and it would keep the display on from the reading so I could turn it right side up and read it but that didn't work. I don't have the manual.
