Getting down to the wire, we need to choose the exhust configuration. This poll will run only 5 days.

    What you should know:
The 'Tuned Pipe' muffler has a removable blocking plate in place of the screen, which when removed defeats the tuned pipe effect and turns the muffler into a basic dual port. I will include the screen with the saw as well as the copper blocking plate.

Will the pipe lose its tune if the saw is ported?

Great question! I think perhaps slightly because the calculations are based on cylinder displacement and internal volume of the muffler itself along with the rpm range between max torque and max power of a stock saw.

If it does the blocking plate can be removed, turning the muffler into a standard DP. It is hard to measure max torque/power witout a dyno, most porters do not go to that expense, they would like to for sure, but no commercial dynos are availabe for chainsaws. I have a friend that is a big time Kart racer who constructed one for his kart engines, which I use to verify the manufacturers claims.

If shipping wasn't so much we could dyno it stock and then ported.

There is one in Pa where a few of Randy's saws are being sent to be tested. I am probably gonna send my 460 up there to run against a ported 461 and 660 (stock with D/P muff).

Randy is building a 461 now to go up there.

The guy makes a chart to show the curve of the power (both torque and HP). He already did a stock 261C-M and Randy's personal 261C-M. The proof was in the chart. Randy's ported 261C-M not only produced more power, but over a much broader range.

Read the title :) Member designed saw

There have been numerous polls on what this saw should have. There was several different cylinder choices, a couple different carbs, high top or low top, half wrap or full wrap bar, several different mufflers etc.

This saw has been built on the majority vote of members here. And soon it will be up for auction.

    See here.. http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/for...-build-of-the-member-created-custom-saw.5024/

Some of those threads are a lot older. Plus, if you miss one day, and the thread doesn't stay up top? Then you won't see it as a new thread. Because it has faded from the front to the back, since you last were here. In over 24 hrs a lot can go on.

The 562 thread had 2 pages after just a couple hours, as well as the Port shapes thread. That one had several pages in less than 10 hrs. But once people stop posting, and it gets lower in the page? It won't show up to you as new. If you "Had" to see every new thread when you picked that button? You wouldn't have time to post anything.

Cost, cost, cost and the control of cost. Think about it, add the total cost of a Mastermind port job to the MSRP of the saw, then compare that to what the MSRP of the competition, and you will lose market share. Also there are casting tricks that could accomplish some of what Randy does but not all of what Randy does, so you then would have to add in the most expensive component skilled labor! Nobody is going to do that!

To chainsaw guys it seems logical to add the performance during manufacture of the saw, however in reality Stihl makes saws to make money and nothing else, so the less $ they put in to get a viable market offering the more money they make.
