my buddy had it in his dump run pile so I grabbed it. ive wanted a top handle saw maybe this will compliment the MS361 nicely. is it 50:1 or 40:1? if it is 40 and i use 50 from my sthil what bad effects will it have? if anyone runs one and has anything good or bad to say about it or any tips post up! i havent tried firing it yet.
They're a PITA to work on if & when they needed taken apart, though when you have one that runs good,it'll serve you well. 40:1 is fine.I use that in all my saws, even the vintage ones.
It looks like a hassle to work on. Will 50:1 foul it up, I'd prefer not to have 2 different mixes on hand.
Brother gave me his early '90's (last version of that 2.0 cubic inch/32cc top handle saw) last March.Had been sitting in his garage for over 10 years.Fuel line leaked so he quit using it.I tore it all down, cleaned everything, put it back together.Great compression & fires up quick, but still needs the line itself or this clamp thing replaced that attaches it to gas tank - leaks at that point. Havent decided whether to get the parts to fix it or just leave it on the shelf as a reminder of what McCulloch Corporation ended up as shortly before filing for Chapter 11 in 1999..... Yours is one of the earlier all metal ones I see....should be a little easier to work on & much more durable too.
Those are cool saws there !! As for the mix thing...there have been many discusions I have seen on this issue . I dont think 50:1 will hurt it. Just adjust the carb to compensate for it . I am a 40:1 guy myself.....one can covers it all . With the crappy gas these days ..we need to compensate somehow .......40:1 in my Huskys' , Dolmar , Echo , Stihl , old Homelites etc ! One can..no probs...and your new saw....pro or not pro...will be better protected..and still not smoke ! Also use a good fuel treatment that is compatable with 2 stoke engines . I have used both Seafoam and Star products with no problems .
Cool little saw you have there. Just got my 310 fired up yesterday. McCulloch does call for 40:1, but with a carb adjustment 50:1 should work just fine. I'm having the fuel leakage issue Thistle speaks of. I'm gonna try some fuel line with a bigger OD and see if it seals better. Also have a rebuild kit for the zama carb and some dogs ordered. I've been doing my research on these little McCulloch's so if you have any ?s throw me a line.
Run 40:1 in the Stihl. I'm running 40:1 in all of my saws, both the ones that are 3 decades old and the ones that are 3 months old.
[quoteseilhead, post: 69430, member: 219"]my buddy had it in his dump run pile so I grabbed it. ive wanted a top handle saw maybe this will compliment the MS361 nicely. is it 50:1 or 40:1? if it is 40 and i use 50 from my sthil what bad effects will it have? if anyone runs one and has anything good or bad to say about it or any tips post up! i havent tried firing it yet.[/quote] I run either 32/40:1 in everything including g new stihl. The 50:1 is epa BS. Plus a chainsaw and carburetor cannot tell the difference in 40/50:1. And any saw will run fine on 50:1 with modern oils. But I have only run one gallon of 50:1 ever in anything. Do what you wish. But to answer your question yes you can without trouble.
i got it all tore down today, carb is badly corroded, it was sitting outside so i got a carb off ebay for $30. then ordered a rebuild kit for it. going to do the fuel line while apart as its pretty stiff. compression felt good along with piston skirt visual exam. I hope i remember how to get this thing back together lol
Wait. I'm still getting down from my handstand. Oh. There we go. Nice saw there diesel! How does it run? Oh chit. Would help if I read the thread.
