Not sure how it happened or if it actually did. Have not used my saw in a little bit and for some reason I am not sure if I transfered some fuel to my chainsaw can and got side tracked and didnt add oil or what. So I topped off my saw to go and do some cutting today. Cut for about an hour and the saw cut out on me maybe like 4-6 times. Didnt think anything of it really, figured it might be some restricted air on the filter being dirty or what not. Finished cutting and went to add the splash or two left from the can and saw it didnt look mixed.

Needless to say I am freaking out. Not sure what to do. Can I add the correct mix and cross my fingers and hope it wasnt straight gassed? Do i need to rip it down and look to see if the cylinder is scored? If so not really sure on how to do that. How much do the parts to fix it cost if I did mess it up? My heart is racing over here and I am kicking myself for making such a stupid stupid stupid mistake.:headbang:o_O:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

Take off the muffler real quick and have a look before you do anything

Ok took it off and this is what I see. This brown mark goes down but not all the way. This is looking straight into the cylinder I dont see any scored lines on the sides.

:dex:Ouch. Can you put some straight oil and roll over without plug, clean it and fire it up and see how it runs? Disclaimer, I am not a mechanic

I'm not an engine guy, but I would think it wouldn't have made it for an hour without oil in the gas. I found this vid of a guy using an old engine to see how long it would last without oil in the mix...

Usually within a minute or two with no oil running wide open they lock up tight Seeing how it ran for an hour I don't think that you straight gassed it. Maybe a little lean on oil but from the looks of the piston nothing to worry about.

Use it as an excuse to send it to Tennessee and hop it up.

Doesn't look scored. But to be safe I'd empty the gas and put fresh gas at 40 to 1 in there and try it out.

Ran it for an hour? Can you post a pic of the spark plug too? Severe lean condition should show on the plug as well.

I'm no mechanic but agree 100 percent no small engine would run that long without oil... if it did there would ads on TV shouting from the roof tops about this new protective additive!

Thank goodness! I was in a bad way since I have all these trees to cut. Slowly chipping away at it and glad the 562xp will have more food to eat.

Let us know how it runs after you get a richer mix in it.

As redfin said rotate the piston up & check it for scoring.

Lean is not the same as straight gassed.
