Would have thought Black Locust would be higher on the list. American Beech is #10 and #23 - typo? Or just that good? :p

    It has a "split" personality.
    Get it?

Fixed it-- somehow I had one of the beech votes off by itself. As you can see, that moved it up the list and green ash has now snuck in at #25.

It really surprised me that silver maple was so high on the list.

I think the Silver Maple needs to be tested for steroids. :D

Just like the NCAA polls, this is essentially a popularity contest and, well, silver maple must be really popular!

    The poll is ok.
It's the same way we elect people, so it must be gooder.
    No offense to the poll.

Weird list to say the least, Boxelder at 18 and Black Birch at 23 is just wrong.
I assume its because many of the woods are more available to us burners.
Green Ash is a nice middle of the road wood but not many talk about burning it.

That probably has more to do with its limited range. It is petty much an eastern Appalachian tree. Not everybody has access to it. And hedge is absent from the list.
