Had to re-gasket the front door on my old Citation stove. So far its been a chap, but last year noticed a small leak in the side. SOOOO for this winters prep it was re-gasket time. The liner is only a year old i installed last year so she is clean as a whistle... Anyone else pulling some pre-winter maintenance?
I'll be up on the roof repairing flashing soon. Here is a thread... Best get it done before it turns cold. | Firewood Hoarders Club
We did replace all the gaskets in the stove this year plus re-seal all the joints in the stone in the firebox and of course, cleaned the catalyst. Haven't checked the chimney yet but wife usually takes care of that. If it were me doing it, I'd simply look at it about every 3 years because we just don't get much of anything in there.
The IS is only 2 yrs old this winter, gaskets are in great shape still. My only thought for an upgrade will be getting a new radiator for above the cat that has a stainless steel plate already attached. A couple of the IS owners already have them and I think this will be good to have for the upcoming years.
You may be getting the upgraded radiator with your new stove. The new production year stoves had a few tweaks that happened in the stoves first season and WS made upgrades and changes to accommodate this along the way. One of those changes was putting a stainless steel plate onto the bottom side of the radiator to help deflect the intense heat that created warping and flaking. I haven't talked to but a few new IS owners and they said they had the SS plate in their new IS's. I'd like to pick up one of these upgraded radiators while I'm at open house in order to have it handy should the original radiator wear out in the next few years.
Has anyone installed one of the "updated" grates with the slightly wider gaps/holes? As I understand it the ash grate for the AS was same dimension as the IS but the spacing was tweeked to allow faster sifting. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
touched up the paint in several spots this past weekend. The Mrs. spilled a candle on the hot stove and discolored it. Chimney sweep is coming out Tuesday. I will need to order the flat gasket for the bottom of the combuster (Ideal Steel). The sweep kinda broke it last year.
Gonna do a complete pre-season inspection of both the NZ3000 and the 1900P the next couple of evenings, as well as a quick sweep of both flues to make sure nothing found a home in either of them this past summer... Also have to order a new glass gasket for the 1900P, it's been needing one for a few years now..... And a friendly reminder to everyone, please make sure your smoke detectors are clean, properly functioning (batteries if needed), and check your fire extinguishers. Doesn't hurt to have a family sit-down meeting and discuss the what-to-dos in the event of a fire...... We want our entire FHC family to stay safe!!
well said, and reminds me to pick up another one. id like to have one on both floors, not just upstairs.
when I gutted and remodeled our entire house a few years back, I installed the ones that are hard-wired in almost every room of the house. One of the best things I ever did.....
Pulled the blower out tonight and got that all cleaned and back in. Gave the door gasket the dollar bill check, good there. Going to unbolt and drop the cat out for a little cleaning, then the only other thing I want to do is remove one side of the surround on my insert and take a quick look at the liner connection just for piece of mind. Need to pickup new batteries for the smoke detectors too.
