Made some firewood racks for the F250 Super Duty: Cut a small load today but it is mighty hot, in the mid 90's.
I've had others but none work near as well as this one. It's been modified some. The thing was broke so a railroad spike is expoxied in the middle and a steel strap was welded to support everything. A U clamp reinforces a crack in the handle as well as some bolts. It is very sharp and bites good in big logs.
I used to use a Peavy like that one at forestry school in the 70's. Now I have an all metal one. Sigh!
Looks very nice. I really like how you joined the headache rack to the sides. I've been pondering how to do that on mine.
My coyote hunting partner is a retired master sheet metal worker. He bent that up. It was complicated because the rack protecting the rear window contours the truck and the racks are square to the sides of the bed. So this transition had to be made.
Hey now, I am going to start carrying a 5 gallon pail to use as a step to get into the bed. Yesterday I was using a cut off round. With no running boards due to being on log landings, it is quite a step up getting in the cab.
thats probably my only complaint about my 2500. The tailgate is too high... I guess i could buy a chevy, but.............no! lol
Wait a minute Firewood Bandit. My old cant hook came up missing several years ago and I had to break down and buy a new one. That one on your truck looks very similar to the one that came up missing here... You are a better man than I am working in this heat.
