It's not uncommon to remove the few standing mature trees when a lot is cleared of all understory and neighboring forest. Left on their own they too often succumb to the wind. Insurance companies prefer not having the damage risk. Better to start over when developing a new landscape.

That's exactly what happened. They said they were already leaning towards the other properties, so out they came.

Seems counterintuitive but I have to agree. Girlfriend lives in a small duplex condo association. 5 duplex’s built in the early 80’s. They left some monster red oaks and took the rest of the trees out. 40 years later they’re even bigger and dangerous. If one of them ever comes down it’ll flatten a house like a bug. Very expensive to remove too so they stay.

    Way to go.
I am jealous. Trying to find a good score myself.
I went by a site they had cleared a few weeks back and there was a pile of logs in the back corner. Was going to stop but no one there, just a bunch of heavy equipment and no signage of any kind to maybe get a phone number to call and see about them. Two days later equipment still sitting but pile is gone ; I'll take a "no" for that one.

Passed another yesterday where a lot had been cleared , fella-buncher there , big log pile and huge chip pile.
Stopped and talked to them and waiting for log truck pick-up so another "no".

I'll keep looking. Not giving up yet.

Yeah , I'm trying anyway. I am itchin' to make a few chips but can't seem to get to the finish line. Not giving up.

There is Guilford but getting him off his hind quarters and actually doing something is beyond a task in itself.
I know there is log length Hickory , Ash , Oak there. Every weekend I try to get him going but so far I have failed.
    Still trying.

When im jonesing for a good score i cant seem to find one to save my life. They seem to find me at the worst possible times it seems.

I havent spotted any cutting in my travels other than the two Asplundh crews that i talked with who were only limbing. Im tempted to call a tree guy i know that ive scrounged from twice.
